Grace House

For over 20 years, Grace House has served the St. Joseph community with a simple mission: to provide essential items to those in need with compassion and care.
Founded by Ruth Costello, Grace House was built on a vision of serving others through the motto “All Free for a Smile.” What began as a small effort out of the trunk of her car has grown into a trusted community resource. Today, Ruth continues to actively lead and coordinate operations alongside a dedicated team of local volunteers.
Through the generosity of donations and the commitment of volunteers, Grace House has supported thousands of individuals, from infants to senior adults, by providing clothing, furniture, and household goods at no cost. From its early beginnings to its current location at 27th and Lafayette, the organization has provided coats for over 600 adults and 200 children, along with hundreds of blankets and other essential items.
One of its most meaningful traditions is the annual back-to-school giveaway each July, where clothing and school supplies are provided to over 1,000 students, helping them begin the school year with confidence.
At Grace House, everything is rooted in community—friends helping friends.
